And from their physical properties all of our design materials can be used in bathrooms, because it can stand the water well. And opposite to some of our other design materials, the inlay of this panel is not colored. Instead, it has a fine silverish shimmer to it. Because as most of our design tiles, this design material has a metal tissue inside. So what looks like fabric inside of the acrylic glass tiles are actually metal tissues. And those shiny metal inlays give our materials a very luxurious look. And therefore, our products with their expensise and unique inlays are so perfectly fit for luxury bathroom design. But lets also look at the other design features of this interior design concept, of which one is the carefully chosen colors palette. As this bathroom uses a palette of soft orange to brown colors. As you can see that the seperating wall has a cut-out which is set out to carry the bathroom products. And with this design idea the form of the room blends in with the functional design. While the next remarkable design aspect are those towel holder rings, because they also function as a surprising modern aspect of the room concept, while also they create the impression that the room was so big, that the towels holders would be to far away from the tub, if they where attached to the wall. Also in the bathroom example, there is a bath tub. And of course this modern design concept employs one of those nice, modern freestanding bath tubs.
Another aspect, where the shape of the room organically runs along with the division of its functional spaces, is the ceiling coming down a bit over the shower area. While materials can be divided into several categories, as they can be modern or not, or they can be natural or fabricated. This is another example of a modern bathroom interior design. And in contrast to the previous example, which also showed a modern bathroom design, this example also uses modern materials. And now we will discuss, which are the design ideas, that make this bathroom so strikingly modern. While the first part of this design, that we want to look at, is the furniture. Because as you can see, the bathroom cabinets are set out without embellishments. And so the cabinets present nothing but a smooth, geometrically precise surface. Which is a feature, that is associated with being part of a modern technologized world. And the next design idea, that we can see in this image, is that the shampoo is being placed in a rectangular cut out of the wall, which is similar to the design idea, that we saw on the bathroom wall in the first example. And also in this example, it has the effect of making the interior design blend together with the architecture of the room. While, the next feature that we want to point out is the color palette of this bathroom moodboard. Because in this example, the bathroom has a blue color, which looks specifically modern through its hue. And the specific tone of this blue color goes a long way in creating the very modern look of this bathroom. Also, apart from the shape of the furniture, this bathroom interior employs very clear-cut block forms. And as we said earlier, this bathroom design employs the same LIZARD SILVER material as the bathroom example we had before. And still our material, that serves as a shower separator, is clearly modern. And so altogether the concept of this interior is so modern that the little baskets on the bathroom shelf even seem not to really fit in, as they are natural elements. Whereas the next design idea, which again marks this interior as being modern, is the bathroom sink, which in this example has a rectangular shape. Therefor, the sink also has a clear-cut geometric form, while additionally the faucet and the towel holder are of a simplistic design. And then there is a lamp spanning above the mirror serving as a lit edge to it. And of course the idea of a lit edge is thought of as being very modern, as you often see it in science fiction.
But let’s have a closer look at the mood board of this design idea. And for that, let us first look at the material of the bathroom closet. While we can not tell what material actually the closet is made of, we still can see that it painted, in what seems to be an acrylic paint of some sorts. And acrylic is a plastic, which basically is one of the very modern building materials as it was invented in 1907. And then we have the bathroom floor, which looks much like it is made of vinyl, which also is a plastic. And then we have the window frame, which also seems to be made of plastic. While the fittings are made of metal, which, even though it is a classic building material, always gives a modern look to design concepts. And the shower back wall, which also is used for the cut-out in the wall, might be stone, but also it could well be another plastic material. So as we said before, in contrast to the bathroom example we saw earlier, which used classic building materials, this bathroom uses modern materials. And if you look at the picture, you see that the adjacent living room then uses classic building materials such as wood.

A bathroom idea reminding slightly of themed rooms
The next example also shows a bathroom design in a luxury hotel. But this example is distinctively different to the bathroom example we saw before. Because the idea to this bathroom design is slightly similar to that of themed rooms. And so the whole bathroom is playfully reminiscent of an imaginary antique. So let us look at the features, which characterize this specific bathroom idea. And at first what we want to look at the brown wall, which is built with irregular natural stone. And a room with irregular natural stone evokes the idea of a cave. And even though natural stone is a rather common design feature in modern interior design, in combination with the flowing water of the shower and the dark ceiling the cave image it evokes becomes so strong that, for an architect, the idea calls a theme room to mind. Whereas for the hotel guests, the room only offers a slight role play feeling. And two other features of this bathroom, that add to the basic idea of creating the air of a fictional antique, are the faucet and the sink. Because the faucet is made of a copper. And copper is a material that evokes a distant past, while the effect of doing so partly already is in the term “copper age”. And the sink for this idea is a big stone device, which also adds to the ancient image of the bathroom. And we said imaginary past, because of course we do not really see artifacts, which scientifically match a certain period. Because of course in the copper age there was no running water in the houses and therefor there were no faucets yet invented. And also people in that age did not live in caves. And so what the designer did in this bathroom idea, is that he feely combined materials and ideas that loosely point into the same direction of being something ancient. And the trait of art, to playfully combine features regardless of scientific precision, is specifically postmodern. So the idea that governs the creation of this bathroom is very modern. And to this, the interior designer used our FIOCCHI COPPER material, which comes with an inlay of copper colored aluminum flakes. And therefor the material does not only take up the copper material of the faucet, but, with its orange hue, it also fits into the color scheme of the moodboard of this bathroom.
What now is the design style of this bathroom?
So we talked about how in the context of this concept the irregular stone wall becomes more than just a modern design element, as together with the copper fixtures and the sink it evokes a feeling of story, as the design elements together match up in the quality of fitting into a topos of a relaxing ancient time, which is close to nature. And it is this being close to nature in the surroundings of a save space, that let us connect this idea, to the idea of living a natural live in connection with our body. So what is offered to the guest in this interior design concept of a bathroom is a kind of role play. But not in a fashion, that a defined fictional character was lived out by the guest, but actually a role play of a physical attitude of being all natural and relaxed. So what interior design style do we have here? Is this mix of old materials and indications combined with new materials and indications a transitional interior design? No, it is not at all, because here we deal with a completely new concept in art creation. Whereas would understand the expression “completely new” as quote unquote, because nothing is ever new in art creation. But the concept of combining the elements of a concept with respect to their conceptual indications is an idea of the more recent art creation, for example in the theater. So if you actually set your concept out to resemble a cave, in order to get the guest to have an all natural feeling of a poetically sublimated state of being pristine, then you have reached a use of your elements, which is postmodern. And so it is exactly that attribute of this design concept, in which a role play of the physical state of the body is facilitated, that is justified through postmodern art theory. And this feature of the modern creation of art is sometimes experienced as a playfulness, while also you could think of it as redefining effects of certain aspects of the design in a language, that is closer to the actual human way of experiencing the world in contrast to word logic.

The following section is about bathroom design mistakes. And this is important to see, because with this you become aware of the mistakes that you want to avoid, when building a bathroom. And that is why Julie Khuu will tell you about some mistakes you should not make, when planning a bathroom design. Also, Julie Khuu is a knowledged interior designer, and therefor it is interesting to look at her YouTube channel. Because listening to her is very insightful if you are about to plan a design. The video also covers bathroom renovation. And it comes up with tips like creating a mood board for the bathroom first, to help you structure the visual ideas that you want to achieve with the design. As she informs us that without a plan, the materials of the bathroom will not match. Another design mistake she mentions is not getting samples of the materials. Because the materials you use do not look the same in real life, as they do on the photos. And therefor you also will create room designs in which the materials do not match each other, just as you get it when not creating a mood board first. Also, she mentions that with the samples you can compare their appearance to the bathroom fixtures that you have, to make them work with the allover design concept.

Shower niches in bathrooms should be centered, so that they are not off. Because such a niche can easily look like a design mistake. Also, it can be nice to have a long, modern linear niche, that spans the width of the shower walls.
Accent walls should be matched to the wall by using the mood board for the planning. Because it can happen that the pattern of both those wall design elements do not work together. Therefor, it can be advisable to choose the same materials for the wall and the accent wall and just get those with different finishes.
In terms of grout, there is also an idea for the design, and that is: If you want the grout to disappear it should most closely resemble the tile color. While here again it is necessary to get samples of the grout to be able to put in right next to the tiles at your building location. Because with that you can check the actual color and also because in general the look of the grout will always change the look of the tile.
In order to not make a mistake by using the wrong color in your bathroom, it can be useful to paint color samples onto the wall. And remember that the light, such as daylight or synthetic light, changes the color of the paint. And also you want to specify the color last, after you picked out the materials, the hardware and the finishes for the bathroom design. Afterward, then you can choose a paint that matches the color of the materials. But also, you can pick a color in contrast to the finishes to create a bold look for your bathroom. While sometimes the ceiling is the only place left to paint.
